Word form katagan
LWT meaning(s)
Comments on word There is a dialectal variant kata:n for ‘salt’ for the northeastern dialect region (Baiyina and Shibazhan). This means that in the northeastern region, the intervolic voiced velar fricative has been lost resulting in the long a:. Another word dɔ:sun ‘salt’ is used by older speakers in the western dialect (Tuohe), which is an older form for ‘salt’ in Oroqen, but it fell out of use in most of the dialects. The older form is clearly native to Tungusic languages. It has cognates in all the other Tungusic languages in China.
