Comments on word | Saudara kandung literally means ‘womb sibling’, that is ‘a sibling of the same parent or parents’, as distinguished from step-brothers and step-sisters. The expression does not occur in Classical Malay literature. Saudara by itself can also refer to any relative of roughly the same generation, but is also used in the sense of ‘sibling’, as in the expression Saudaranya berapa? ‘How many brothers and sisters do you have?’. |
