Comments
Johnson (1943:431) documents this word as a loanword from Spanish, but it seems that the has its origin in the Proto-Uto-Aztecan cognate *ma, *mal. In Mayo maala ‘daughter (of a man)’, in Yaqui maala ‘daughter (of a man)’. (Miller 1967:25).
