Comments on word | There is an interesting similarity between the two words for ‘to come back’, i.e. kla$p and kHuen in Thai. The first one is suspected to be a loan from Malay ‘gelap’ meaning in the source language ‘dark, dusk, no light’. The second one, ‘kHuen’ has its homonyme meaning ‘night’. Note that kHuen ‘to come back’ is reconstructed in Proto Southwestern Tai with a short vowel, while kHuen ‘night’ is reconstructed in Proto Tai with a dipthong |
